NIGO, the CEO of BAPE

After years of anticipation, A Bathing Ape finally opened its first mainland China store in Shanghai Xintiandi in late autumn 2010, thanks to the recommendation of its longtime partner IT. The opening marked a significant milestone for the brand, bringing its iconic style and culture directly to Chinese consumers.

Spanning two floors and covering approximately 240 square meters, the Shanghai BAPE STORE is designed by renowned Japanese designer Masamichi Katayama. The space reflects the brand’s signature aesthetic—bold, colorful, and full of energy. Every detail was carefully crafted to maintain the unique BAPE vibe that fans love.

Walking through the Xintiandi Mall, you can’t miss the classic BAPE camouflage pattern displayed in the second-floor window of the store. Neon lights on either side create a vibrant, psychedelic effect. The entrance on the first floor features a large BAPE STORE logo standing about 1.75 meters high, immediately catching the eye. Inside, the floor is decorated with colorful mosaic stones in the BAPE camouflage pattern.

Near Bar Street in Xintiandi, the outer wall of the store features a striking monk’s head and the “GO! APE” logo. The sleek aluminum panel and glass sliding doors give the shop a modern and futuristic feel.

Stepping inside, you’re greeted by a minimalist white interior that contrasts beautifully with the bold graphics and design elements. A simple staircase leads to a two-story atrium space. The second floor is covered in BAPE camouflage wallpaper, while a large "R" logo stands out as a focal point. This space invites visitors to explore and experience the trendsetting world of BAPE.
