Ecuador proposes mandatory labeling requirements for textiles

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Industry and Production (MIPRO) recently entrusted the Ministry of Quality with approval and formally proposed the proposed "No. 13" label for "apparel, home textiles and clothing accessories" as a mandatory requirement of the Ecuadorian Institute of Standardization Technical Regulations. This technical regulation sets requirements on labels sold on the Ecuadorian market, whether it is locally produced or imported clothing, home textiles and clothing accessories, in order to prevent fraud or deceive consumers. The information presented on the label must be in Spanish (other languages ​​that do not harm the statutory interest may also exist). The required information must be permanently marked, visible, long-lasting, and legible. Information can be displayed on one or more tabs.

The information required by the technical label must comply with the requirements of NTE INEN 1875 - "Textiles and Clothing Requirements", including: size code of clothing and clothing, home textile size, percentage of textile fiber and/or leather use, trade of manufacturer or importer Name and Tax Identification Number (RUC), country of origin, care and maintenance instructions (Nursing instructions can be displayed with symbols, text, or a combination of both). Technical regulations will not apply to specific products, such as: household goods, work equipment, donations received by agencies authorized to receive donations from abroad, items used by diplomats, imported by diplomats or embassies, such as rubber bands, hair With hair ornaments and other items. In addition, the import of specific textile and apparel products (such as clothing, sportswear, swimwear, pajamas, gloves, scarves, belts, socks, curtains, bedding, etc.) must be accompanied by a certificate to prove that it meets the requirements of Ecuador's technical regulations. This certificate of conformity must be issued by a certification authority of origin or destination authorized by the Ecuadorian certification body (OAE).
